Family Getaways - Road Trip to Mornington

The bustling beach side town of Mornington is only an hours drive from Melbourne’s CBD. With plenty on offer for the family, it makes for a great destination for your next road trip.

The playground at Mornington Park is the star attraction for families, offering little ones the chance to be a pirate for the day on a big wooden pirate ship. The large reserve nearby is the perfect place for a game of lawn soccer or a nice picnic.

If picnics aren’t your style then the Burgers at Thanks Albert hit the spot for lunch - especially the aptly titled ‘No I Wasn’t Vegan - and YOMG do a delicious salted caramel frozen yoghurt that makes for a special treat for dessert.

Mornington is a fun day out for the family filled with laughter, sunshine and fresh sea air.

Where is your top pick for a quick family road trip?

Little Markets - Farmers Markets in Melbourne’s Outer Suburbs

We love markets! Fresh produce to stock the pantry, delicious food stalls for a bite to eat, handmade wears for the family, and best of all - the opportunity to support local trade. There are plenty of markets on offer in the outer suburbs of Melbourne. Here are a few of our favourites:

Yarra Valley Farmers Market @ Yering Station

Held once a month at Yering Station, this is our favourite market. The market runs from 9am until 2pm on the third Sunday of each month in Yering Station's historic barn. There is a range of delicious goodies and fresh produce available, from the Yarra Ranges Regional Food Group. It's a fun day out for the whole family, as the little ones can explore and enjoy the Yering estate.

St. Andrews Farmers Market

This market is held every Saturday from 8am until 2pm. Fresh organic produce, arts and crafts, organic skincare products and delicious food are on offer. The market is located on the Main Road in St. Andrews. Your little ones will love exploring the bushland, and there is also free childrens activities on selected days.

Lilydale Farmers Market

Members of the Rotary Club of Lilydale and surrounding areas hold a produce market at Lilydale Lake on the first Sunday of each month. The market runs from 8am until 1pm and is located at Bellbird Park, on the corner of Swansea and Bellbird Roads. There is a large playground at Lilydale Lake for the little ones to enjoy, and you could also bring the fur-babies along for a nice walk around the lake.

Eastland Farmers Market

New to the farmers market scene is the Eastland Farmers Market, located in Ringwood. Held every Sunday from 9am until 2pm, this market showcases a range of produce from regional Victoria.

Berwick Farmers Market @ the Old Cheese Factory

Your little ones will love exploring the Old Cheesecake Factory when you stop by the Berwick Farmers Market. This market is held on the fourth Saturday of each month, from 8am until 12.30pm.

Warragul Farmers Market

Held on the third Saturday of each month the Warragul Farmers Market is located at Civic Park.  Live music, scrumptious local produce and plenty of space makes for the perfect excuse to catch up with family.

Collingwood Farmers Market @ Collingwood Children's Farm

This market is loved by many families. The Collingwood Farmers Market at Collingwood Children's Farm is runs on the second Saturday of each month from 8am until 1pm. There is so much fun to be had at this large market, with entertainment, produce, crafts and more! The Collingwood Farmers Market makes for a great day out.

Mornington Farmers Market

If you're looking for a weekend road trip, this one is worth planning for. The Mornington Farmers Market is held on the second Saturday of each month from 9am until 1pm at Mornington Park. While you are in Mornington why not plan a weekend road trip to explore all that the peninsula has to offer?!
